The Story
Linda’s bathroom was a little dark and gloomy with black tiles, dated cabinets and an unbalanced layout. This bathroom had dual access off the master bedroom and the main hallway, making it a utility for guests in addition to our homeowner. Thus it needed to present more attractively whilst serving better day to day function for Linda.
Wedged between the dual entrance into the Bathroom was an awkward shower, likewise the toilet was cramped between the low riding bath and chunky vanity.
The laundry in the next room was pokey and dysfunctional also. Neither room had much natural light and both were in need of using their respective spaces more efficiently.
The outcome
We continued the installation of Arco PVC framed, double glazing to both rooms. In the bathroom, we replaced the original glass blocks with a double sash awning window, to allow for ventilation, retain privacy but maximise as much light as possible from the rear alfresco area. In the laundry, a ’tilt n turn’ window/door was installed, allowing indoor/outdoor access, or simply a crack of ventilation when required.
We customised cabinetry to give Linda exactly what she needed in terms of storage solutions – the vanity is a focal point while concealing a clothes hamper and drawers within drawers. A structural change in the laundry had us remove the bricked in linen cupboard to lengthen bench space, fit dual appliances and maximise storage within the new linen cupboard – which also included hidden power for the vacuum.
